Support for Students and Families Without Stable Housing

At Bedford Public Schools, we believe that every child deserves a safe and welcoming school community. If your family is facing housing challenges, we are here to ensure your child can enroll, attend, and thrive in school with the same opportunities as every other student.
 
Who Qualifies
Children and youth are eligible if they are living in any of the following situations:
  • In a shelter or transitional housing 
  • Staying in a motel, campground, or vehicle
  • In a place not meant for people to live (for example, on the street, in a car, in an abandoned building, or in any other place not meant for regular housing)
  • Temporarily doubled up with friends or relatives due to loss of housing or economic hardship
Your Rights
If your family is in one of these situations, your child has the right to:
  • Immediate enrollment in school, even without records normally required
  • School choice: remain in the school of origin or attend the local school where you are currently living
  • Transportation to and from the school of origin, if requested
  • Free school meals (breakfast and lunch)
  • Equal access to all academic programs, extracurricular activities, and services
  • Stay enrolled and attend classes while disputes over eligibility or school placement are being resolved
