Panorama Survey Spring 2023

Dear Bedford Public Schools Families,

We thank you and your family for being our valued partners as we work together to educate the children in our district. As you may already be aware, building our social-emotional learning skills is an important district goal in our schools. Over the past three years, many students and teachers have participated in several exercises to better understand these concepts and to reflect on how they perceive these skills in themselves.

K-2 teachers at the Davis School will complete a SEL teacher perception survey for each student during a faculty meeting. This survey offers teachers a way to efficiently give feedback on their students SEL skills but are not intended to grade or serve as an evaluative assessment. These topic areas align with future self-report measures and can be used to compare data and areas for growth and further development.

The survey content will ask all K-2 teachers to give their perceptions on each student on the following SEL Survey Topics:

  • Classroom Effort
  • Self Efficacy
  • Emotional Regulation
  • Self Management
  • Grit
  • Self Awareness

We will be asking for your grade 3-12 child to reflect on their own mindsets and approaches to learning via an online survey they will complete at school. The survey shouldn’t take more than 20-30 minutes to complete.

The survey content will ask all grade 3-12 students to self-reflect on the following SEL Survey Topics:

  • Challenging Feelings
  • Growth Mindset
  • Positive Feelings
  • Self Management
  • Social Awareness
  • Supportive Relationships

We are asking that all of our students participate in the surveys, as their responses will provide invaluable insights into their experiences. To mitigate mental health concerns and ensure equity in access to supports, we will use these survey results to identify needs and set priorities for strengthening social, emotional, and academic programs, practices, and services for students. If a student doesn’t feel like they have enough information to answer a question, they will be able to skip the item altogether. The responses to these surveys will be completely confidential. We are partnering with a third-party vendor, Panorama Education, to support us in administering these surveys.

The survey will begin at each school during the following dates

  • Lt. Eleazer Davis Elementary - May 31, 2023
  • Lt. Job Lane Elementary - May 1,  and close on May 3, 2023
  • John Glenn Middle School - April 28, 2023
  • Bedford High School - April 26, 2023

Please notify us if you would like your child to opt out of taking the surveys by filling in your name and your child’s name on the attached file and returning it to your child’s school by April 25th (Attn: School Counseling). We thank you in advance for your thoughtful responses. If you have any questions about the SEL survey, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s building-based school counselor or my office at (781) 275-1700 ext. 4410 / lester_eggleston@bedfordps.org

Sincerely,

Philip  Conrad, Superintendent
