Below are some Frequently Asked Questions regarding our FirstClass Email System:

What is my Internet Email Address?
Faculty/staff internet email addresses are in the format of:
firstname_lastname@bedford.k12.ma.us.

Student addresses are in the format of:
firstname_lastname-yog@bedford.k12.ma.us.

How do I email other people in our FirstClass Mail system?
The FirstClass Email system uses a built in directory. You only need to type a few letters of another users' first or last name in the TO: or CC: field and the system will present you with a list of matching entries to choose from. To email people outside our system - enter their full internet email address.

How do we deal with SPAM?
We have a Barracuda SPAM Firewall installed that blocks approximately 19,000 spam messages per day. As good as the system is, some spam will still get through. Most spam can just be deleted from your mailbox. You will occasionally receive an email from the Barracuda SPAM Firewall. This email will include a list of possible spam messages the system has placed in your Quarantine box. You can login to the Barracuda with the link at the bottom of that message to mark the messages as SPAM or to deliver them to your mail box. You can also login to the Barracuda directly at http://barracuda.bedford.k12.ma.us:8000. Your username is your internet email address. If you don't know the password, enter in your username and click the create a password button and you will receive an email from that system with your password.

How can I install the FirstClass software on my home PC or Mac?
Follow the steps below to download, install the client software to access our FirstClass E-Mail System from home. You can also log in to our email system over the web at http://mail.bedford.k12.ma.us/login.

  1. Go to http://mail.bedford.k12.ma.us/clientdownloads/ and choose the client for your operating system (Windows, Mac OSx or Linux).
  2. Run the installer that downloads.
  3. After it installs and the software opens for the first time, you will be left at the server configuration page.
  4. Enter mail.bedford.k12.ma.us in the server field.
  5. Click save then you can login.

Can I login with a web browser?
Go to http://mail.bedford.k12.ma.us/login.

Can I use my iPhone or iPad to access FirstClass?
Yes - download the FirstClass app from the app store and enter in our server address - mail.bedford.k12.ma.us.  A Blackberry app is also available and an Android app will be available soon.

Is our mail archived?
Yes. All email you send or receive is archived. The archive system is necessary for legal reasons, but it also provides us a convenient method of retrieving deleted email you may need to get back.

How can I get back a message I deleted?
You can restore a message you deleted the same day you delete it. Go to your mailbox, then choose Show Deleted from the view menu. Then right click the message you want back and choose undelete.
