Available Technology

The Bedford Public Schools enjoy the use of a wide variety of computer services that aide faculty in the instruction of students and administrative staff in the execution of their various tasks. Below is a short description of some of these services:

Overview:

Wired and wireless network covering four schools - supporting 1200 PC's, 300 Laptops, 700 ipads, 16 Laptop Carts, 18 Computer labs, and 150 wyse terminals at the High school. Smartboards installed in 120 classrooms and projectors with sound systems in all schools.

File and Print:

Each school is equipped with their own Windows File server providing file storage for all faculty and staff. Each staff member and student at the High School and Middle School have their own private account with disk space on the server for storage of their work. Students at the Lane and Davis school utilize a shared classroom account for the same purpose. Each server is backed up nightly to ensure the data is protected from system failure. Users may log in within anywhere in their building and access their files.

Internet Access:

A Verizon FIOS internet connection connects the High School & Middle School to the Internet. The Lane and Davis school each have their own Comcast Cable Internet connection.  These internet connections are available on any computer on the network in those buildings. The school system is protected by multiple firewalls and our internet access is processed through a Filter Server to keep unwanted material out of the schools.

Classroom Computers:

Windows based PCs are provided in each classroom for faculty and student use. Each school is also supplied with one or more computer labs. Computers are also located in staff offices, shared access areas, libraries, and special instruction areas.

Misc. Peripherals:

Faculty and Staff also have access to a wide variety of peripherals. Color printers, digital cameras, scanners, Alphasmarts, DV Camcorders, SmartBoards and wireless laptops are available at each school.
