Performing Arts

Band, Chorus, Orchestra, Classes

For students who play an instrument or like to sing, there are many course offerings including band, orchestra and chorus. The music groups present typically three concerts throughout the year for the school community.

The John Glenn Middle School has an outstanding performance of a musical every year in March or early April. Everyone has a chance to audition for a part as a lead or in the singing and dancing groups. It is great fun and the chance to use your talents. Crewmembers are very important as well. Students who are interested can paint scenery, move props and furniture, help with make-up, lighting, costumes and a whole range of related activities. Rehearsals are after school and can be very demanding of your time. You need to plan well and organize yourself so that you keep up with your schoolwork. If you work on the play, you will be proud to have participated in the “event of the year” at the John Glenn Middle School.

Jazz Band, Instrumental and Vocal ensembles are offered as extra-curricular activities. The music department faculty also offers coaching to prepare candidates to audition for the Junior District Festival. Private lessons for band and orchestral instruments, as well as voice, piano, guitar and drum set are offered by the Patrons of Music Students, POMS, for a fee.
