7th Grade Trip to the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston

Students in the 7th grade visit the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston each winter to enhance their understanding of how a civilization’s religious and cultural beliefs are shown through their art and artifacts. Most of the visit is structured so that students are visiting exhibits about the civilizations they are learning about in Social Studies class, although there is some time for students to explore other collections in the museum.

8th Grade Trip to Washington, D.C.

For over 40 years, eighth grade students at the John Glenn Middle School have had the opportunity to travel to Washington D.C. to visit our nation's capital. This trip enables our students to see our democracy at work while touring the Capitol building, the Supreme Court, and the White House. Students also visit sites that pay tribute to the many people and events that helped shape our country, such as the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument, the Vietnam Memorial, the World War II Memorial, and the Korean War Memorial. In addition to the numerous historical sites, government buildings and national monuments that we tour, students have the opportunity to explore the Smithsonian Museum complex, which is recognized as one of the premier museums in the world. This real life experience not only enhances our social studies curriculum, but also provides a valuable social experience for all of those involved.

Each year, the trip is scheduled for late May-early June. The estimated cost of the trip is $800 and this includes travel, hotel accommodations, and meals. Detailed information about the trip will be provided to students well in advance. There will also be an informational meeting (in the evening) for parents and students. There is money available for students who need financial assistance.  Click here for additional information about the trip, including answers to frequently asked questions.
