Physical Education & Health

JGMS physical education contributes to the physical, cognitive and social development of students through a variety of movement experiences. These experiences include fitness activities, team sports, group games, individual skill development, and teamwork. Students participate in fitness testing to better understand individual fitness levels. P.E. meets two times per six day cycle. One day each cycle students learn and practice appropriate fitness enhancing behaviors including using cardiovascular exercise equipment. Grades 7 and 8 students learn and practice strength training using free weights. On the other day each student practice movement skills in a sport or game environment. P.E. requirements- Each student must wear sneakers, a physical education t-shirt, and shorts or pants different than those wore to school.

The health courses focus on nutrition and health education topics and provide students with opportunities to learn more about their physical, social/emotional, and intellectual development. The goal is to help students develop health- related decision-making skills. Health meets one time per six day cycle.
