Bio

Beth Billouin

Prior to coming to Bedford, Ms. Billouin spent one year working in software development and taught for three years at Methuen High School. Ms. Billouin received her M.Ed. in Curriculum development from Cambridge College and her B.S. and teaching certification from UMass Lowell. Ms.Billouin lives in Bedford.

Deborah Darlington

Deborah Darlington teaches Physics and Biology at Bedford High School. Mrs. Darlington began teaching in 2001 at Belmont High School, where she taught Integrated Science, Biology, Physics, Zoology and Astronomy. From 2011-2014 Mrs. Darlington was the Director of Science for the Belmont Public Schools. In 2014 Mrs. Darlington chose to leave administration and return full-time to the classroom at Bedford. She earned her B.S in Biology from Tufts University and M Ed. from UMass Lowell.

Richard Estes

Richard Estes is a Chemistry and Marine Biology teacher who is currently teaching High Honors Chemistry and Honors Marine Biology. Mr. Estes began teaching at BHS in 2012. Prior to coming to Bedford, Mr. Estes taught for three years at Wachusett Regional High School in Holden, MA. From 2005 to 2009, Mr. Estes was a Marine Biologist for Metcalf and Eddy and the National Marine Fisheries Services. Mr. Estes also spent time working on a traditional wooden schooner (The Alabama) out of Martha's Vineyard. Mr. Estes received his M.Ed. from Fitchburg University and his Bachelors of Science from Roger Williams University.

Liana Heldman

Liana Heldman has been teaching at Bedford High School since 2008. In addition to teaching chemistry and AP chemistry, Ms. Heldman has previously co-coodinated the West Suburban Science League, co-coached the Bedford Science Team, and co-organized the annual Women of Science competition. Prior to coming to Bedford, Ms. Heldman taught middle school math and science at Majuro Middle School in the Marshall Islands. Ms. Heldman earned her A.B. in chemistry from Dartmouth College and her Ed.M. from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Ms. Heldman is also a National Board Certified Teacher.

Heather Kurzman

Heather Kurzman is a science educator currently teaching College Prep Chemistry, High Honors Chemistry, and Honors Forensic Science. Mrs. Kurzman has been a teacher at BHS since 2001. She is the co-coordinator for the Women of Science competition and co-coach for the Science Team. She earned a bachelor's degree in Chemistry and Secondary Education from Boston College and master's degree in Curriculum and Instructional Technology from Framingham State University. Mrs. Kurzman began her teaching career in 1999 at Commack High School in Commack, NY where she taught chemistry, forensic science, and clinical technology. She enjoys spending time with her 2 sons, husband, and 2 dogs. 

Sarah Leshay

Sarah Leshay began teaching at Bedford High School in 2007 and she currently teaches STEM Applications and College Prep Biology. Ms. Leshay is the co-advisor for the BHS Robotics Team. She has a B.S. in Biology and a M.A.T. with a focus in secondary education from Northeastern University.

Scott Stief

Scott Stief is a physics teacher who is currently teaching Honors Physics, High Honors Physics and AP Physics C. He has a Bachelors Degree in Physics with a minor in Mathematics, which he earned in 2007. He began teaching at Bedford in 2008, shortly after receiving his MA in Teaching Physics. Mr. Stief is the co-coach for the Bedford Science Team which competes in both the West Suburban Science League (WSSL) and the state wide Science Olympiad. Mr. Stief is also the coach of Bedford’s Women of Science teams. On top of his responsibilities as coach of the Science Team, he organizes and runs the WSSL along with his co-coach.  

Lucas WickhamLucas Wickham joined the teaching staff in Bedford in 2017 and currently teaches Physics, Honors Physics, and AP Physics 1-2. He was most recently at Chelmsford High School for six years, where he taught a range of physics classes, including AP Physics 1 and 2. Prior to that, he spent a year in Ethiopia teaching English to local students and enjoying the food and culture of East Africa. He earned his BS in Physics in 2004 from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.
