Davis Homework Policy

Kindergarten

The students have a reading calendar which they mark each day that they read with a family member (this means being read to, or tying to read themselves, if they are ready for this). The goal is to read at least 4 times per week. Students will return the calendar at the end of each month.

From time to time during the school year, teachers will send home a homework assignment which pertains to something they are learning in class, such as:

  • Count how many windows are on the front of your house.
  • What is our phone number?
  • Learn your address.
  • Handwriting practice, etc.
  • Some classes have a bear or mystery bag that travels home and back with the children.

Students are expected to complete the work and return it to the teacher in a timely manner.

Grade 1

Students are expected to read at least 15 minutes each night. In addition written assignments may also be sent home. Children should be expected to spend 15-20 minutes on each assignment.

Grade 2

Students are expected to read for at least 15 minutes each night. All second graders receive spelling words they must practice and study for a spelling test. "Home Links" are coordinated with the math program and are expected to be completed. Students are required to record on a record sheet all completed homework. It must be returned to school each Friday. All classes have the same expectations: students are responsible for completing and return their own homework.
