Davis Attendance Policy

Regular attendance is important to learning. However, when a child is not well, s/he should stay at home for the good of the student and his/her classmates.

Please notify the school by 9:00am the morning of each day the child is absent.

An answering machine is in place at all times for your calling convenience. You may leave a message about your child's absence on this line at any time: (781) 275-6804 ext. 1

When school personnel are not notified by the designated time, and a child does not arrive at school on time, school personnel will make every effort to contact a parent or guardian.

These policies have been initiated to ensure the safety of your child.

School Attendance Policies:

  1. A student who arrives after 9:02am will be marked tardy.
  2. A student who does not attend at least one-half of any school day will be marked absent.
  3. A student should not be dismissed from school before the close of the school day, except in case of illness or other emergency.
  4. A student may not leave the school building until the person receiving the student has reported to the school office, has been properly identified by a school official and signs the student dismissal book. Telephone calls for dismissal may be verified.
  5. An excuse, in writing, or a phone call, is required from the parent or guardian in every case of an absence, dismissal or tardiness.
  6. We strongly discourage families from taking vacations other than the regularly scheduled school vacations and holidays. Introduction to new materials occurs daily; therefore, any absence will affect your child's progress. Learning of new material presented during this absence will be the responsibility of the student and parent. Teachers are not required to prepare work or provide make-up materials for students on vacation.
  7. Should your child arrive at school after the start of the school day he/she will be considered tardy. The parent/guardian should accompany the student into the school office where he/she is required to sign in. The attendance record will be adjusted and the child may then proceed to class.
  8. Parents or guardians who are going out of town should notify the school office with the dates of your absence and the name of the person who will be staying with your child. If your child will be staying at someone else's home, please leave that address and telephone number with the school secretary.
  9. Whenever possible, appointments (doctor, dentist, etc.) should be made outside of school hours. In addition, after school activities/lessons (scouting, skating, etc.) should be planned so as to avoid early dismissals.
