Recently, we have noticed a number of issues around students and the choices that they are making when posting comments on social media that end up being hurtful to others in the school community. We realize that social media plays a large role in the lives of our students. We are concerned when issues such as this arise about the social and emotional repercussions of such online interactions. Inevitably, this does translate into the school environment and can cause academic disruption, and undue social discomfort for students. We ask that parents continue to monitor their child’s use of social media and to have honest and open conversations with their children about the nature of their posts. These teachable moments are helpful as students do not always recognize the human outcomes and real consequences of their online activities.

As always, please feel free to reach out to your child’s guidance counselor for additional information or assistance in managing your child’s social media use. There are many resources available to aid in the monitoring of online activities. Thank you for your support.
