The Bedford School Committee has contracted with the Massachusetts Association of School Committees (MASC) to assist with the search for a new superintendent, pursuant to Superintendent Sills' retirement.
SUPERINTENDENT SEARCH UPDATE - FEBRUARY 14, 2020:
Bedford Public Schools’ search for a new superintendent is actively underway. Over the last several weeks, more than forty individuals applied to be Bedford’s next Superintendent of Schools. This is an extraordinary level of interest, and is a direct result of the excellent schools and collegial spirit in Bedford.
A Superintendent Search, Screening and Interview Committee was appointed to review all applications, interview candidates and select finalists to be presented to the School Committee.
The 17 members of this search committee include parents, district leadership, faculty, a student and a recent graduate. Members represent both elementary and secondary schools, and hail from each of the communities served by our schools: Bedford, Boston and Hanscom Air Force Base. Those generously giving their time to serve are:
• Marianne Vines, BPS Director of Special Education, Chair
• Helen Pulizzi, Bedford High School graduate, Vice Chair
• Allison John, parent, Secretary
• Lori Alper, parent
• Beth Benoit, Principal, Davis School
• Dan Brosgol, parent and School Committee member
• Jill Butler, teacher, Bedford High School
• Anne Caron, parent
• Jessica Colby, Vice Principal, Davis School
• Ryan Doucette, student, Bedford High School
• Alicia Linsey, BPS Director of K-12 Counseling
• Vincent McGrath, teacher, John Glenn Middle School
• Akil Mondesir, BPS METCO Director
• Erin Attfield Quinlan, parent
• James Sunderland, teacher, Bedford High School
• Gloria Tsai, parent
• JoAnn Santiago, parent and School Committee member
The identity of applicants will remain confidential through the first phase of the screening and interview process.
In early March, the search committee will present its report identifying several finalists for interview by the School Committee. The names of these finalists will be made public, and each will be invited to spend a day in Bedford touring schools and meeting students and staff. During these visits, faculty, staff, students, families and community members will be invited to meet the finalists at a late afternoon event. These visits are expected to take place during the weeks of March 9th and 16th. More information about these visits will be shared next month.
The School Committee will interview candidates in public meetings shortly after these visits. The interviews will be public, and community members are encouraged to attend.
Many thanks to the students, families, faculty, school staff, community members and town officials who shared their hopes and concerns for the schools via online surveys and focus groups. This information has been invaluable in identifying key areas of focus in the screening and interview process.
I wish you a happy February vacation.
Chair, Bedford School Committee
